MEMBERSHIP UPDATES 2019
NEW ATTENDANCE POLICIES BEGINNING JANUARY 5TH, 2019
Please make sure to familiarize yourself with these policies as attendance to class between the dates of 1/5 and 1/31 will be construed as tacit understanding and acceptance.
Thank you for an amazing 2018! The past twelve months have seen some amazing milestones–relocation into our current home on Greene St, the doubling of our class offerings, and plenty of impressive personal and professional milestones by an array of the student body.
2019 is shaping up to be another BIG YEAR here at the gym. I measure the academy’s success not by the bottom line at the end of the month, but by how we can improve the program and ultimately provide more meaningful, convenient, and great opportunities for you to grow, learn, and just overall enjoy the experience.
However, in order to continue to provide the highest level of instruction, cleanliness, and service to our students, we here at North Star MMA will be making a dedicated effort to tighten up attendance tracking and check-in rates.
BEGINNING SATURDAY, JANUARY 5th, ALL MEMBERS MUST CHECK IN FOR CLASS. THIS IS MANDATORY MOVING FORWARD AND WITHOUT EXCEPTION.
THIS CAN BE ACCOMPLISHED AT ANY KIOSK/TABLET IN THE FACILITY, OR THROUGH THE ZENPLANNER MOBILE APP WHICH IS READILY AVAILABLE.
*As we develop the proper flow and resources to accomplish this, there will be a few hiccups. Technical issues, or mistakes on our end, will frustrate this effort–please be patient with us as we iron these out :).
Initially each membership had been predicated on a weekly or monthly allowance, and these were designed in order to manage the resources of space on the mats as compared to the weekly class offerings. It has become apparent that the system, although conceptually well designed, does not adequately reflect the nature and behavior of how the academy operates as a whole.
Without a strict attendance policy, students have begun attending classes more in line with their training needs, and not with their membership permissions–and this is ok! That is what we are here for: to provide the best training possible and to serve you as best as we can.
Again, I (Jackson) take full responsibility for permitting a culture of tolerance about not checking in, and for creating a membership matrix that does not accurately reflect or accommodate the needs of the students.
However, as we grow, it is essential that we tighten up our policies regarding attendance and ensure that every student’s membership accurately reflects their training needs and frequency. Every month we invest time and resources into improving the academy–more classes, new staff, better equipment, testing opportunities, etc.
In order to manage a larger student body, to continue to provide facility upgrades and student benefits, and to proactively eliminate scheduling or space issues, having our attendance tracking operating at 100% is an absolute necessity and will take full priority moving forward.
All students enrolled in 2018 or before will have the option of upgrading to an unlimited Muay Thai membership @ $139/mo, or an unlimited MMA membership @ 149/mo (which grants access to every program currently on the schedule). This is at, or below, “market rate” in Philadelphia for comparable instruction. “Unlimited” memberships at Tiger Schulmann’s, or other large academies, are north of $200/mo.
Students on our 2x/week plan can choose to upgrade to our 4x/week plan ($129/mo) as well, and will always be locked in to the 2018 rates for as long as their membership is continuous. The opportunity to then upgrade to an unlimited membership will be extended indefinitely throughout their continuous training (students who cancel, and then return, will always be subject to the current program offerings).
It is important for students to voluntarily select the membership that is a best fit for their training regimen in order to move on smoothly.
This can be accomplished by contacting us at email@example.com and putting your membership update request in writing.
On February 1st, all students who have not selected the proper membership, and who are operating outside of their current membership, will be immediately upgraded to the membership that reflects their training frequency in January, with an additional $25 administration fee.
Students who intentionally attempt to take class without signing in will be subject to the $25 drop in fee, no exceptions.
Attendance to class between the dates of January 5th and January 31st will be construed as tacit acceptance of these policies.
For those students who have been operating outside the boundaries of their current membership, but cannot afford the membership that would be in line with their training frequency, we will provide tuition amnesty for up to 12 months. To apply, you must contact the academy directly at Info@northstarmma.com. However, this must be accomplished before February 1st and must be done voluntarily by the student. After February 1st, this exception will no longer be provided.
I am excited for what 2019 has to bring, and it is–and will always be–my ultimate goal to provide the best training, best facilities, and best value as I possibly can to you.
Your assistance, and patience, with helping us move through this adjustment period is exceptionally appreciated. Thank you, truly, for being a part of such an awesome academy.
